Rootian Kuah Town Langkawi.

Had a trip to Langkawi for three days last week to visit the in-laws. The last time I was there we went to this place in Kuah where they had served fanstastic stewed pork trotters. After two years we made another trip there again. Surprisingly this place had not changed much even though Kuah town had expanded a bit since I was there last time. We ordereed the rooste duck, curry fish, tauhu and of course the stewed port trotters. The curry fish and the pork trotter were my favourites. There was not much fat in it, just enough so you can picked it out. I think so far this is the best chinese place to eat in Kuah town during for dinner. Definately will be here again on my next trip to Langkawi.

Spicy chicken at Ikea.

There was something new at Ikea's cafeteria menu so I decided to check it out last night. Ot was the spciy boneless chicken. It seems it was on sale now for the past three months. The meat balls are no longer on sale. As I am a big chicken fan, I just had to order it. I waited for a twenty to thirty minutes for it. Batch after batch that came out of the frier was taken by everyone. As I waited for the next batch at my table, the next batch was also taken up. I must be good! So I had to have it. Sent my wife there the third time and finally got it. I was pretty spicy but tasty. Certainly worth the wait. I goes well with the mash potatoes and gravy. I think it tasted better than the Swedish meatballs. I will definately have this again.

Grilled Fish at Puchong.

The home ministry had a sudden craving for grilled fish. I was wondering where can I get it near my place. I thought of this place where I always pass on the way to Wisma Tractors at Putri Mart. There's a food court next to it. So being a bit adventurous decide to venture there.
We were in luck and found a stall selling grilled fish. Ordered the grilled stingray and the 'Juk Ton'. Was surprise that it was good. Was because of the sauce they provided. I definately go there again.

Penang Kopitiam Megamall.

Did not have my camera for almost two weeks. The misses took it with her during one of her trips overseas. However managed to get it back in time during our trip to this place in Megamall. I not been here for ages, the last time I believe was about 4 years back. The place has not change and still as crowded as usual. My initial impression was, the food must still be good. I was proven right. We had some friends with us too so we ordered something for each of us. I myself got the 5 season chicken with rice and the misses ordered the char kuey teow. I got included the otak otak. What I had on the table was pretty good. The quality of food had not dropped since the last time I was there. There are few places left that can maintain such consistancy in quality over time. This makes me give this place a mojor thumbs up.
As for my 5 season chicken the gravy for the chicken was excellent. I didn't taste much of the rest though but from the impression I got from my friend, it was good.

A'Famosa Chicken Ball Rice.

Before I left Melaka, I was adamant to have the famous chicken ball rice at Jonkers street. I was last there about 5 years ago and the place still look the same ad mist the new facade of the exterior. The rice they sell was compresses into a ball and it sold by the piece. I remember the last time the rice was very tasty but wasn't the case this time. I wonder why? We ordered an array of food for only two of us. I though since we there why not... The best one of our ordered was the otak otak. I on of those persons who tries thing once but if I don't like it I not have it again but this otak otak was a pleasant surprise from the last one I had. Then again the last otak otak I had was in Singapore so maybe I am a bit prejudice about it.
Nothing special about the food but only the atmosphere were you eat as it brings you back into history were Jonkers street was a part of history and we sitting there at that moment in time was part of some history. People come and go but the place remains.

Hoi Kee Melaka.

Last week I took two days leave to go to Melaka for a family out thing. We didn't know anyone there so we had a dilemma.... Where to eat? After checking into the hotel, drove around in the evening to look for food. We ended up at the Ujung Pasir Portuguese settlement but there wasn't anything interesting there. Maybe because it was a Monday. So drove back into Melaka town arrived at Melaka Raya. After a few restaurants we scouted we finally out of hunger ended up at a coffee shop near the hotel. It was a typical Chinese tai chau.
With my limited mandarin, I asked whether they had seafood i.e. crabs. My wife was craving for it and Yes they did. I also asked if they had any other specialties, they recommended the herbal soup lamb. With that we ordered blacked peppered crab, kung pao frog legs and some greens. Maybe because it was a Monday evening there was not much of a crowd (not like K.L. standards) so We didn't think much of th food but to out surprise it was pretty good. I especially love the frog legs as they added some dried squid into it. The crab too was good as it was spicy and had some element of curry flavour in it. The herbal lamb was just o.k.. Maybe because lamb doesn't really go well with the herbs as they claim but it does produced some heat in my body after eating it. Maybe if we were in winter it would be different. All in all the bill came out to be RM70+ odd. We were lucky that we stumbled at this place. One indication that we thought it was it was a popular place was that they had numerous staff working that night even though they didn't have a crowd, I think they are busy during the weekends.

Pan Mee Bentong.

Had this at Bentong. One of the smoothest Pan Mee I had tasted. Especially if you have it with the bleeded green chilly they had ready for you. Right in the old town centre. Good breakfast menu.

Cheese tarts at Bentong.

Had a day trip to Bukit Tinggi over the weekend. From there made a trip to Bentong for lunch. Was introduced to this Deli in Bentong old town that have highly recommended cheese tarts. Since it came highly recommended, I decided to by two boxes of it. I was told that if I don't buy a minimum of two boxes I will regret it. I not a big fan of cheese but I am adventurous. Had a a taste of it in the car on the drive back to K.L. I don't know it I was full with food or I just don't like it, it didn't have a lasting impression on me these cheese tarts. Will try some more when I am really hungry. But I must admit the dough that they use to make the base for the tarts were certainly fluffy. Its how I like the texture of pastry even though I not a big fan of pastries and desserts.

Tony Romas revisited.

Was at Tony Romas again. I had to revisit this place. I made such big impression on me from the last visit that I had to tell everyone about the huge servings here that one person may not finish at one sitting. I want to see if my first visit had any bearing on the my second visit. I took a friend there for dinner just to be on the safe side, we order one main meal and one starter. The fried mushrooms and the grilled salmon.
An as usual the portion for the mains was somewhat big. It was good. I also particularly liked the grilled salmon, not so much the salmon but the gravy that went with it. I am not much of the fish eater but my friend and I polished the whole plate. Proofs my theory in the first place. Looks like if its not my balloonning weight I would like to make more trips here for dinner.

Tai Chau at Putra Heights.

There this butting AD I all over the place at Putra Heights that say RM9.90 for a talapia fish. Never paid any attention to it. It seem the only chinese coffee shop here 'tai chao' had a change in ownership. They are advertising for a RM10 fish to attract the crowd. Thought I try it with my brother and family the other day. Ordered some simple dishes. Wasn't that impressive as the portions were small(very small) and the taste was only mediocre. Then again for a budget price, what can one expect. Anyway, for me it was just to fill the stomach if you are hungry.

Durians at USJ 17.

Not had bought durians for a very long time. The last season came and gone, I no bought any. I have a weakness for this fruit. Onces I start putting it in my mouth, I just can't stop eating it. I will finish it till the last seed. For this very reason, I stop buying durians. I have a funny addition, I can look at it, smell it, touch it or even open it, i will not have the urge to eat it until it touches my mouth. After that it will depend on my stomach storage capacity.
somehow I decided to buy some from this stall at USJ 17 at Subang Jaya. Maybe I not had it for a long time the thought crosses my mind.
I bought the D24 at RM7 per kilo. Had 5 kilos of fruit weight and two additional were thrown in as a gesture of good will by the owner. I must say the fruit was small but very tasty. Bitter and sweet with some soft texture. The type I will. "Tah Pau" back home and you guessed it.... finished in 15 minutes. Next time.....

Manhattan Sunway Pyramid.

For some reason the wife was craving for more seafood for dinner over the weekend. Where to go? I not a big fan of seafood except for the ones from South Pacific at PJ State (I shall blog about it when i go there next). So made another trip to Manhattan's Seafood but this time to the one at Sunway Pyramid. I always see this large deep fried fish(he BarammundiI think) that people order, wanted to try it but I though it was too much for both of us. Maybe when we have more people for dinner we can try it.
Order the citrus salad. I must say it was food. Tangy, sweet and juicy but all in the right balance. The mains was the grilled seafood platter and the fried Paddock fish platter for one. Since it was Merdeka month, they had a promotion for free starters if we order two mains. The starters was already chosen for us, the fried calamari.
I didn't like the grilled fish from the grilled seafood platter, it had the strong fishy after taste still evident after cooking. The Paddock was fine. I always wondered why they serve most of the mains with garlic rice, after eating the seafood platter thought the garlic rice was to mask the strong after taste of some of the fish. The fried calamari was tasty, maybe because it was oily.
I notice that this place has a very limited selection of main courses and sharing selections. I think this is because that htey only see seafood and no meat making the selelction rather limited.
